매화마름
A garden bakery cafe near the Maehwa Mareum (water-shield plant) colony in Gilsang-myeon on Ganghwa Island. Both the main building and annex are single-story wooden structures connected by a covered timber walkway, with ivy climbing the exterior walls to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a Japanese country house. The garden is meticulously maintained with a koi pond, goldfish, and diverse plantings that make visitors feel as though they have stepped into a forest clearing despite being in the middle of open farmland. Inside, several small rooms offer an intimate, cozy setting, while full-width windows frame panoramic views of distant mountains and fields. The garden view on rainy days is considered especially atmospheric. Five varieties of house-baked bread are available, with the Earl Grey loaf being the most popular, alongside well-received items like red bean butter sandwiches and cakes. The hand-drip coffee program is strong, with the Yirgacheffe drip earning particular mention, and bottled milk tea and omija-cha (schisandra tea) are also recommended. The cafe is pet-friendly, and a spacious parking lot makes access convenient by car. One consideration: a nearby livestock facility can produce odors detectable from outdoor seating, so scent-sensitive visitors may prefer to sit inside. The garden transforms with each season, and visiting the day after snowfall is said to offer a particularly beautiful winter scene.
