Mansujeong 만수정

Mansujeong is a freshwater eel restaurant at 135 Sinjeong-ro in Giheung-gu, Yongin, where eel is grilled over charcoal. Standard freshwater eel and sansam eel are separated into one-kilogram orders, with additional portions available during the meal. The sansam option uses cultivated wild-ginseng root, while its cleaned eel follows the same table-grilling process as the standard order. A broad split eel that nearly covers the charcoal and thick green onions go onto the grill under a staff member's care. After cooking both flat sides, the long pieces are turned upright so their edges meet the heat, then cut into bite-sized sections. This sequence browns the skin and exposed surfaces while retaining moisture in the thick flesh. The green onions cook beside the eel, taking on rendered fat while their interiors become sweeter. The table includes pickled onion, seasoned bean sprouts, white kimchi, water kimchi, shredded ginger, garlic, fried eel bones, and eel sauce. Sauce and ginger add salinity and sharp aroma to each piece. White kimchi and pickled onion introduce acidity and crunch between fatty bites, while the fried bones provide a light, rigid texture apart from the soft flesh. Warm soup and some side dishes are also available from a self-service counter. Banquet noodles, scorched rice, and steamed rice form the meal choices after the grill. The noodles use broth and a soft wheat texture, whereas scorched rice closes the meal with toasted grain flavor. Cleaned raw eel is sold separately for cooking away from the restaurant.
