Dowon 도원

Dowon is a Chinese restaurant on the third floor of the Seoul Red Cross Hospital annex at 9 Saemunan-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Its stir-fried jajang combines noodles, seafood, and gan-jajang sauce in the wok before arriving on a platter. Ulmyeon thickens a seafood-and-vegetable broth with egg and starch, then adds noodles. Samseon jjamppong stir-fries seafood and vegetables for a spicy broth, whereas the clear version uses seafood, vegetables, and Cheongyang chili in a transparent broth. Beef brisket is placed over the chadol jjamppong. For eohyang donggo, shiitake mushrooms are filled with minced shrimp, fried, and finished with fish-fragrant sauce. Jeongabok contains sea cucumber, abalone, and shrimp. Yangjangpi combines seafood and vegetables with mustard sauce, while gochu-japchae stir-fries bell pepper and meat and comes with flower buns. Chili shrimp and cream shrimp coat fried medium-sized shrimp in their respective sauces. Kkanpung shrimp and kkanpung eel use fried shrimp or eel with garlic, chili, and kkanpung sauce. Five-spice beef is simmered with the spice blend, chilled, and sliced for serving. Pickled radish, raw onion, and zhacai form the basic accompaniments. Full-height windows and window seats line the front of the hall, looking toward trees by the Seoul Museum of History and the surrounding city. Several private rooms of different sizes sit farther inside, with the largest holding about ten seats.
