Samgojeongmun 삼고정문

Samgojeongmun is a Korean restaurant on the second floor of 673-1 Saecheonnyeon-daero in Samcheok, serving set meals built around grilled fish, soy-cured seafood, and rice cooked in individual pots. The range includes plain sotbap, assorted grilled fish, soy-marinated shrimp, a mixed soy-cured seafood set, and grilled dried pollack. In 2026 the assorted fish set continued to combine mackerel, Atka mackerel, red fish, and flatfish on one table. Fatty mackerel, the softer grain of Atka mackerel, and the white flesh of red fish and flatfish provide several textures rather than centering the meal on one large fish. The grilled pieces sit on a tabletop warmer, retaining heat while the different fish are separated from their bones. Rice is first moved out of the hot pot. Water added to the rice stuck along the pot loosens the browned grains into sungnyung, dividing the same rice into a dry accompaniment for fish and a warm toasted-rice finish. The soy-cured set takes a colder route, combining shrimp, abalone, and scallop matured in soy sauce with sotbap. Shrimp and scallop remain springy against the flaky cooked fish, while abalone brings a firmer chew. Rice and marinated seafood can be placed on dried laver, adding a brittle seaweed layer to the grains and soy seasoning. Set meals arrive with assorted banchan and kimchi jjigae. Hot stew and vegetable sides interrupt both the oil of grilled fish and the cool salinity of the marinated shellfish. The wood-toned hall contains four- and six-person tables as well as infant chairs. Assorted grilling, soy curing, and drying are distinct preparation methods, but each is organized around the same pot of rice and spread of side dishes.
