Gyegogijip 계고기집

Gyegogijip is a charcoal chicken restaurant on the first floor at 1 Baekbeom-ro 24-gil in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Its central dishes are salted charcoal chicken and seasoned charcoal chicken. Both place chicken over charcoal, but the salted version keeps the seasoning simple and lets the grilled surface remain central, while the seasoned version coats the meat in a red sauce. Ordering both divides the same main ingredient into salt and sauce preparations without changing to another animal or cooking appliance. Boneless charcoal chicken feet add a different part of the bird and a spicy seasoning. Because the bones are removed, the pieces can be shared without the eating method required by whole chicken feet. Grilled chicken gizzard is another separate plate, using the muscular stomach rather than ordinary breast or thigh meat. The main chicken, boneless feet, and gizzard occupy distinct textures and cuts on the table. Meal dishes include dak-gomtang, bibim-guksu, sundubu-jjigae, doenjang-jjigae, and rice balls. Dak-gomtang is a warm chicken soup meal with rice and differs from adding a small shared stew to grilled meat. Bibim-guksu uses seasoned noodles without broth, changing both temperature and staple after the charcoal dishes. Soft-tofu stew and soybean-paste stew provide two hot shared broths with different bases. Rice balls add a plain grain component that can be divided beside the sauced chicken or spicy feet. The menu follows a clear sequence: choose salted chicken, seasoned chicken, or both; add feet or gizzard if another cut is wanted; then decide whether the meal should end with chicken soup, spicy mixed noodles, tofu stew, soybean stew, or rice balls. Each addition changes the part of the chicken or the form of the staple rather than repeating the same grilled plate.
