Every bowl of chueotang, loach soup, comes with its own small pot of rice. Scoop the rice into a bowl, pour the mushroom infusion provided over the crust left in the pot, and by the end of the meal it has become sungnyung, a warm toasted-rice drink. The standard soup is made with ground loach and dried radish greens; tong chueotang keeps the fish whole, and other versions add mud snails, abalone or bamboo shoots. Perilla powder, sansho pepper and chile flakes on the table adjust aroma and heat. It is walkable from Dunchon-dong Station, the main entrance is step-free, and parking sits beside the building. A fried loach platter and loach-stuffed pepper dumplings round out the menu, and pork cutlets cover anyone who skips loach.
