Taipa 타이파

Taipa is a basement cafe at 24 Majo-ro in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, organized around Y2K and kitsch decoration. It is about 320 meters from Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station. Stairs from the street lead into a room where bright character objects and metallic surfaces occupy the same visual field. Hello Kitty dolls appear alongside character-decorated fans, wastebaskets, and other household objects, spreading the theme around seats and walls instead of limiting it to one display cabinet. Pale and transparent angelcore details, reflective metal textures, and strongly colored accessories divide the room between soft cuteness and a colder shine. A mirror area frames both the visitor and the surrounding objects, while artificial basement lighting reflects from the metallic surfaces and keeps colors prominent. On the menu, cream soda presents vivid carbonated liquid, ice, and a cream layer as separate visual elements. Drinking it with the layers intact preserves the contrast between fizz and cream; mixing later changes both color and texture. Coffee jelly is a spooned dessert rather than a conventional liquid coffee, pairing elastic coffee-flavored cubes with cream or other accompaniments.
