Baekrihyang 백리향

Baekrihyang is a Chinese restaurant on the 57th floor of the Hanwha Life Insurance Building at 50 63-ro in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It opened in 1985 and builds its cooking on Cantonese foundations while incorporating selected Sichuan and Beijing methods. Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, a preparation that cooks numerous ingredients through a long process, and dongpo pork, which braises pork gently in a soy-based seasoning, are its principal large dishes. The restaurant does not require every customer to order a course. The main hall serves individual dishes including samseon jajangmyeon, vegetable and seafood white jjamppong, and yuringi. These cover distinct uses: jajangmyeon is a single bowl meal, white jjamppong provides a pale broth with vegetables and seafood, and yuringi is fried chicken intended more readily for sharing. A table combining a larger plate with individual meals can place dongpo pork or yuringi in the center and let each diner select a noodle dish. Windows on the 57th floor look over the Han River and the surrounding city, so the high-floor outlook is part of the seating decision as well as the meal. Beyond the general hall, several private rooms accommodate different party sizes. They separate family gatherings, formal meetings between families, and business meals from the main dining space. Booking a private room requires ordering a course, which creates a clear difference from choosing individual dishes in the hall. A party prioritizing freedom to select separate plates can use the hall, while one prioritizing an enclosed room chooses the room and course together. On weekends and public holidays, seating may be divided into fixed time sessions. The reservation start and the permitted dining period therefore define the schedule for those days. Drivers can receive up to three hours of complimentary parking by registering the vehicle license number with the restaurant when paying. The number must be entered through the restaurant for the parking benefit to apply. The restaurant divides its uses through a Cantonese-led menu maintained since 1985, substantial dishes such as Buddha Jumps Over the Wall and dongpo pork, an a la carte main hall, private rooms tied to course orders, and the Han River view from the 57th floor.
